Dark Side of the Earth Podcast Review
Introduction
In this installment of Radiolab, podcasters Jab Abumrad and Robert Krulwich are allotted the once in a lifetime honor of talking on the phone with astronaut Dave Wolf; who used the International Space Station's single phone call rule to chat about life 254 miles above where us earthlings stand today.
Kinds of Audio
Jab and Robert introduced bits of their and Dave Wolf's conversation, creating listener clarity of the rather sporadic interview clips. There was a stark contrast between the interview and the following voiced over discussion, the International Space Station's echoing manner coupled with its grainy natural sound quality creating a clear departure from the crisp ambient sound created by RadioLab's studio.
Moments of Reflection
Though a good portion of the interview was jovial, Jab poking fun at how one could do such mundane tasks as make rice or use the bathroom without the aid of gravity. However, there was a moment where Dave Wolf began to talk about the Earth's atmosphere. He noted how thin it seemed to be, how the vast emptiness of space is truly right above us, that only in him looking down upon us was he truly able to realize how lucky we on Earth are; the blackness of space illuminating the beautiful anomaly which is our planet, spec in the universe.
